Two things worth reading before the rest.
Your designs are yours (section 4). We claim no ownership of them and acquire no right to use them to develop coatings or train AI.
Our output is an engineering aid, not a guarantee (section 7). You must validate any recipe before committing it to production.
These terms are between you and Cor Stellaris LLC (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using OptiCoat Designer you agree to them. If you are agreeing on behalf of a company, you confirm you are authorised to bind that company, and “you” means that company.
OptiCoat Designer is a hosted thin-film optical coating design, optimisation and analysis tool. We provide it on a subscription basis according to the plan you select.
You own your designs. Every layer stack, custom material, measurement, calibration and revision you create remains your intellectual property. We claim no ownership of any of it.
You grant us only the narrow licence needed to operate the service: to store your content, transmit it to your browser, back it up, and — where you have separately and explicitly agreed — send it to the AI provider named in our Privacy Policy so the assistant can answer you. That licence exists to run the product and for no other purpose, and it ends when you delete the content or close your account.
We do not acquire any right to use your designs to develop coatings, to train AI models, or to improve our products. If we ever want to do any of those things we will ask you separately, it will be opt-in, and declining will not affect your use of the service.
We may offer free trials or complimentary accounts, and may modify or withdraw them at any time. Before removing access to an account that contains your work, we will give you reasonable notice and an opportunity to obtain a copy of it.
Plan limits — such as the number of layer stacks, layers per stack, saved workspaces and team seats — are enforced by the software and are described on our pricing page. We may change them with notice.
Your use of the service is also subject to our Acceptable Use Policy. In short, you may not resell the service without our agreement, attempt to access another customer’s data, interfere with the service, or use it to break the law.
This section is important and we would rather be direct about it.
OptiCoat Designer produces theoretical models, optimiser results, monitoring runsheets and chamber corrections. These are engineering aids, not guarantees. Real deposition involves material behaviour, chamber condition, tooling accuracy, fixturing, contamination, source ageing and measurement error that no model fully captures.
You are responsible for validating any recipe, correction or runsheet before committing it to production. We do not warrant that a design, an optimiser solution, a calibration fit or a runsheet will produce any particular physical result, meet a specification, or be fit for any particular purpose.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost production, scrapped parts, wasted substrate or coating materials, chamber or machine time, or business interruption — even if we have been advised that such damages are possible.
Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the service, under any theory of liability, is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred US dollars.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
We aim to keep the service available but do not promise uninterrupted access. We may carry out maintenance, and we may change, add or discontinue features. We do not currently offer a contractual uptime commitment; if you need one, contact us before purchasing.
The application is designed to keep working without a network connection, and your current work is saved on your device, but features that require our servers will be unavailable during an outage.
We treat the contents of your account as confidential. We will not disclose your designs, materials, measurements or calibrations to any third party except as described in our Privacy Policy, as you direct us to, or as required by law. If we are legally compelled to disclose your data we will tell you, unless we are prohibited from doing so.
We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, that creates risk or legal exposure for us or other customers, or that is used to abuse the service. Except where we are legally compelled or where the account is being used abusively, we will give you notice and a reasonable opportunity to obtain a copy of your data first.
You may stop using the service and close your account at any time by contacting privacy@cor-stellaris.com.
We may update these terms. For material changes we will give notice — by email or in the application — before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, you may cancel.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Mississippi, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. The state and federal courts located in Harrison County, Mississippi have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the service, and both parties consent to personal jurisdiction and venue there.
If you are a business outside the United States and this venue is impractical for you, contact us before purchasing and we will discuss it.
